I love my dad; he means everything to me. The way he would carry me leisurely and tickle me to make me giggle on a gloomy afternoon just makes my day. He would always take a stroll with me into the forest and sit all afternoon on the hill and watch the beauty of the sunrise fade into another beauty known as the stars in the sky.

Quietly we sit without a care in the world. I was his princess, and he was my knight and shining armor. Everything was indeed perfect…

…until one day, she came along.

My dad and I were frantically running away or towards something. I couldn't quite understand why, but his face isn't what I was accustomed to. His peaceful smile, his gleaming blue eyes, his brownish unruly hair, they were all different. His eyes now show fear while his smile was now replaced with an indifferent expression. Somehow, I could feel my dad drifting away from me.

"I heard the scream here. It must be near here," he panicked.

I didn't know what he was talking about. A while ago, we were have a picnic, and when dad took off to get some wood for the fire, he came back looking all shocked and worried.

Deeper and deeper, we went into the woods. The tranquil glow of forest vanished as we ventured deeper into the forest. The lush shrubs and trees that were covering the fields a while back were now long gone. All of a sudden, only the dead trees surrounded my sight. It's as if I was in a new world where life ceased to exist.

We came to a halt when we faced an old little cottage. My dad didn't waste a single breath and kicked the door of the cottage breaking it in half. A piercing shriek that scared me came afterwards. Everything came too fast. The next thing I saw was a little girl wearing a red hood was on the floor whimpering and a wolf near her growling quietly.

The tumult made me kneel on the ground covering my tiny little ears wanting for peace. I closed my eyes and kept uttering to myself that daddy will be there to save me. I opened them and saw a gruesome sight that shook my inside.

Blood, it was everywhere, on the walls, on the floor, on daddy. The wolf lay lifeless on the floorboards with its head crushed open. The sight of overflowing blood was too much for a fragile girl like me to stomach, and soon, everything went black.

I was drifting to my own fantasy until I woke up only to see the innocent face of the little girl whom I still see as a mystery. "Princess, are you okay?" I heard someone asked. I looked beside me and saw once again the smiling face of my father. "Dad, I'm okay," I replied giving a faint smile.

"You're dad's amazing. He saved me from the bad wolf. Too bad he wasn't able to save grandma," the little girl spoke. "Well, seeing a trail of blood in the middle of the forest isn't normal to begin with. If I didn't see it, I wouldn't be able to find you," my dad replied.

My dad left immediately to get something to eat, and I was left all alone with the little girl. Innocent she may seem, but something about her was clearly wrong. I couldn't quite comprehend being with her. Even though a single word didn't come out of her; it's as if she's pressuring me with words. Her glaze at me just tells a thousand words, and all of them don't look good.

"Your dad seems nosy," she said.

"Not that much, but he is rather curious though. Why is that you ask?" I replied. "Well, I wouldn't want your dad to see inappropriate things out there," she said. "Inappropriate?" I found myself asking. "Never mind, I'm just going to take a stroll by river," she finally replied walking out the door covering her head with her red hood.

Hours passed, yet my dad still hasn't returned nor has the little girl. I sat still waiting for the both of them. The sky moved nimble above me, and soon, night came. My eyes were falling to sleep, but to my surprise, my dad stormed in gasping for air.

"It was a setup. We were tricked dear. The wolf was innocent; it was only lured there as well as us. I'm not yet sure, but if I'm correct her grandmother was murdered," he blurted out while panicking. "Who set us up?" I asked, but before he could reply, the little girl with the scarlet hood entered holding a basket between her hands. My dad hushed in silence at her sight.

"Mister, could you come with me? I left my clothes at home," she innocently asked. "Sure," my dad agreed. "Princess, don't let anyone in while I'm gone," he ordered walking away from me once again.

As he approached the girl, everything seemed to slow down. I felt a heavy feeling in my chest. I looked forward and only saw my dad little by little moving away and the little girl wearing her scarlet hood with a menacing grin on her face.

From that day on, my dad never returned.

This is a short story I made for my school newspaper's literary section. If you've been reading, it's my own version of Little Red Riding Hood. I made it up just to make people see that a story can be retold in different perspectives thus creating different versions.

:bulletorange: Was the entirely plot of my story predictable? Was the somewhat dark theme of my story helpful to give the story a little more spark? Any flaws in my grammar? Can you cite some points for me to improve.

Its sad she wont she her dad again, it may have been interesting if the wolf was just injured and ran off so once the dad was killed red would come back for her and the wolf saves her. Then she wouldnt be totally alone, but thats just my opinion. Its still a nice story
